CABARROGUIS, Quirino—The Quirino provincial health office has reported that the number of malaria-stricken residents have substantially gone down to a manageable level.

“From 1,200 cases in 2003, it is now down to just 5,” said Quirino health educator Ruth Payumo.

As a preemptive shield against the spread and reoccurrence of malaria in town, a memorandum of agreement was signed earlier by Global Fund-Movement Against Malaria/Filipinas Shell Foundation Inc. (GFMAM-PSFI), the local government of Cabarrroguis and the Australian mining company OceanaGold Philippines (OGPI) at the municipal hall here.
