    Tuguegarao City (4 March) — The results of the National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) which were conducted last 2008 revealed that knowledge of family planning is universal among women in the country.
    The survey shows that more than half of the married women are using family planning and the commonly known methods are the pill, male condom, female sterilization and injectables.

Tuguegarao City (4 March) — The Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Command 2 has reported an increase in total crime volume in the first quarter of this year.

In the report of PC/Supt. Roberto M. Damian, Regional Director, a total of 431 crime incidents were recorded from January 1 to February 15, 2010, higher by 73 incidents or 20.39% as compared to 358 incidents of the same period last year.

MANILA, Philippines - The town of Murcia in Negros Occidental province has declared a state of calamity due to the effects on crops of the ongoing dry spell caused by the El Niño phenomenon.

Murcia town Mayor Esteban Coscolluela said they needed the declaration to be able to release funds for the farmers.

Coscolluela said an initial P2-million in calamity funds will be used for the local government’s rice assistance program for the farmers who are being affected by the dry spell.

Cabarroguis, Quirino (February 25) — The provincial government of Quirino has drawn up a mitigating plan if in case there will be threats of AH1N1 to Quirino residents or suspected carriers of the disease here.

In a two-day planning workshop conducted by the experts from the Cagayan Valley’s Center for Health and Development (CHD2), local as well as national government offices based in this province joined the planning workshop aimed at crafting a very effective and suitable mitigating measures to stop a possible AH1N1 pandemic if there will be found carriers of the disease.

Dr. Marian Lyn de Laza, chief of the regional epidemiology and surveillance unit in the CHD said that the provincial government should always vigilant to monitor the entry of suspected AH1N1 carriers and if found out positive should be properly managed and treated according to clinical procedures.

Aglipay, Quirino (19 February) — Thousands of parishioners of St. Lourdes here and the nearby parishes welcomed the replica of Our Lady of Piat from Piat Basilica Minore in the Aquero Festival from February 11-14, 2010.

Aquero in Lourdes dialect pertains to the Blessed Virgin Mary herself. It can be recalled that after 18 appearances of the Lady to the peasant girl Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, Fance, the Lady finally told her that she is the Immaculate Concepcion.
